The math is simple…TXT + DRV = RIP! In 2010, 3092 people were killed in crashes involving a distracted driver and an estimated additional 416,000 were injured in motor vehicle crashes involving a distracted driver. Is this enough to get you to say TTYL…I’m Driving!?!?
Three Types of Distractions:
- Manual: Taking your hands off the wheel
- Visual: Taking your eyes off the road
- Cognitive: Taking your mind off driving
It’s not just one type of distraction that’s causing crashes, there are three types and many sub-distractions under each type! It takes all three (hands, eyes and mind) to be a safe driver!
Top 10 Driving Distractions:
1. Cell Phone
3. Changing the Radio
5. Lighting a Cigarette
10. Waving to others outside of the vehicle
Be aware of the things that can be tempting while driving, and come up with ways to make sure you don’t give in to the temptation. DNT WRECK your life!
